Black locust (robinia pseudoacacia) is of the genus robinia in the family Fabaceae, which includes many flowering plants. Robinia includes deciduous trees and shrubs. On the phylogenetic tree, black locust is near mescal bean, clammy locust, and roseacacia. All of the species observed in this project do not necessarily have an adaptation in common, as some are shrubs, some are deciduous trees, and some are coniferous trees. One specific adaptation of the black locust is its thorns, which serve to discourage consumers.
