Nature Walk 4/26/20

It was about 85 degrees on this walk today. I originally started out with the plan that my walk would be surrounding plants, specifically any plants I could find that are currently flowering. Starting out, I was able to find and focus on purely flowering plants. However, as the walk progressed I was able to find more and more insects. So, my theme is still flowering plants, but I included a lot of other wildlife as well. These pictures were all taken in California and I was surprised how many different animals I could find. The pictures of the king snakes that I have included I'm assuming that they were mating, although my mother was with me and she believes they were dancing haha. I was able to get pretty close to the snakes for pictures, but eventually I think I made one of them made because it popped up its head at me, most likely warning me to back off. The last lizard picture I included was actually a video. The video was a lizard attacking the bee several times before proceeding to eat it. It was a really cool video and I was really surprised that I was able to get the video from as close as I was. Overall, I was surprised with how many flowering plants I could find this far into spring time. I was also pleasantly surprised over how many of these plants were accompanied by cute little insects and lizards (and some snakes). I went out on the walk with the purpose of snapping a couple of pretty flower pictures and I ended up getting to see a lot of wildlife interactions. The most interesting thing I saw was definitely one of the lizards I saw. It would walk a couple steps and then do a sort of push up action a couple times before then continuing to walk. Overall, an amazing walk with lots of pretty flowers to find.

Nature Walk 3/17/20 - Fungi

I'm back in California for this walk! I was a little concerned about being able to find fungi, but I dragged my mom on a nature walk with me and I was actually able to find a lot of fungi! It is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit with a little bit of sun, but it is mostly cloudy. Most of the fungi I was able to find were pretty deep in the trees, mostly in areas where the sun didn't shine directly on it. I was amazed as to how many different types of mushrooms I could find. I tried to get a lot of angles of the different mushrooms, because I figured they would be easier to identify if you were able to see both the tops and the stems of the mushrooms. I also included a lot of other pictures in this post outside of fungi genre because I was able to get so many pictures on this walk, but I believe I ended up finding around 10 different types of fungi! I think my favorite type was the one growing up the side of the tree that had actually seemed to be the reason for the death of the tree. It almost looked as if it had eaten through the tree. Honestly, it was a beautiful day and a great excuse for a long walk. I was amazed at just how much I could find when I was really looking for it.

Nature Walk 2/25/20

The walk around the Reservoir was beautiful. It was a little cloudy, but incredibly warm for the end of February. There was surprisingly little animal life out considering how nice the day was. I saw several different types of moss and plant life, which I included in my observations because they all seemed like a different species. I saw a couple types of ducks and birds that I couldn't identify but they were too far away to get a clear picture! Overall, it was an amazing walk.
