Starting this project off
This project is designed to understand the suite of factors that determine the distributions of the two tree squirrels (genus Sciurus) in the Great Plains. They show an odd mosaic of distributional patterns, and the Gray Squirrel appears to be expanding its range westward. I work in the area of distributional ecology, and am fascinated with the idea of historical effects on species' geographic ranges. I am using iNaturalist as a platform, as this work will be accomplished via observations... I will be driving east-to-west transects to get the crucial data, but I hope that others will complement the data that I accumulate with their own observations. Feel free to write to me directly if you have any ideas or questions ... town@ku.edu. All the best, Town Peterson
