Diario del proyecto Restoration of Swamp Cutover

In 2016/2017, an area of the Slades Swamp abutting our homestead was cut. We acquired the land after it had been cut and enrolled it in programs to assist with the conservation and reforestation of this tract. The tract is close to 70 acres.

In 2018/2019/2020 we planted over 33,000 trees including cypress and oaks. In addition, although we were unable to obtain cherry or other fruiting trees, we planted some Crepe Myrtle to provide for wildlife. We intend to continue to look for an opportunity to purchase and plant fruiting trees to assist in providing for biodiversity and habitat for various species.

We hope to keep some of the habitat as early successional/fields as some species prefer that to more wooded areas. However, the majority of the acreage will hopefully one day return to the forested swampland that it was prior to the cutting.
