Some Do's and Don'ts
Some tips to get the most out of the City Nature Challenge 2023.
DO: turn on your GPS
DON'T forget to turn your GPS on
DO: remember to get your name to your District Commissioner so she can order your badge.
DON'T: just make the minimum number of observations to earn your badge. Get out there, and have fun.
DO: Join this project - and get updates
Don't: Just upload some photos and forget about them.
DO: Take pictures that are in focus and zoomed in so the bird/goggo fills the picture as much as possible
Don't: post pictures with the subject a tiny little dot that cannot be seen.
DO: Look at your page after the event: there may be messages, identifications or even prizes for you.
Don't: Forget about nature when the City Nature Challenge is over: nature is part of our lives. You will miss out!
DO: Post one species per observation
Don't: Post 20 observations on one observation: One species per observation please. We want your observations to be valid.
DO: Take several pictures to help with ID: a super picture, and then one of the back end, a side view, and leaves or habit.
Don't: Post each picture as an observation: make sure that your observation can be identified by posting enough views of the same organism.
DO: Help us with identification after the challenge. It is the fastest way to learn and great fun too. Choose a group that particularly fancies you.
Don't: Just accept the identifications and other work done for you. Help save and conserve our threatened species by learning about them and joining societies and groups that feature things you are interested in. Help with IDs. Join the Spider Club, Botanical Society, Herpetological Society or local Friends of chapter, or a photographic, hiking or hacking group. Start your own school club.
DO: Have fun!
Don't: Not have fun! Get out there and discover our wild and natural places!
