The Walsh Ranch is a mega planned community expanding across the Fort Worth Prairie in Parker County. The site includes at least one small, high quality (unplowed) pocket prairie as well as many natural corridors along drainage areas. Members of the Fort Worth chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas are working with the Walsh Ranch HOA to train a group of residents to use iNaturalist and encourage their participation in the City Nature Challenge. The goal is leveraging iNaturalist to encourage residents to learn about and advocate for their own environment. @pfau_tarleton has set up an iNaturalist project for the Walsh Ranch: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/walsh-ranch-community-parker-county-tx Observations will automatically be added here as they are made. Thank you Russell for all the support you are providing for the 2024 spring bioblitz season!
We are asking area naturalists with an interest in Fort Worth Prairie ecology to participate in the Walsh Ranch Bioblitz Saturday April 27, come and go from 10 am to 2 pm. Detailed directions to the site will be added to this discussion a week prior to the event.

Sorry I cannot make this one. Business travel interferes.
bummer to miss, but I will be out of the country
Got it on my calendar!
Plan to come and explore.
Looking forward to it!
Thanks for the invite! I'm a maybe. It's on my calendar.
I'll try to be there!
I should be there!
Planning on it. Thanks!
So wish I could make this one. Sadly I have to work every Saturday in April due to moving our entire building to another building. Really messing with my spring plans.
I work that night, unfortunately. If it started earlier in the day, I would come for as long as I could. Hoping you find great stuff.
@lulubelle Do you live very far away? You might come just for the first hour......
@katermorgan, I live in Arlington.
I'll be heading west this weekend chasing Penstemons and won't be able to attend.
As promised, here's the location and parking instructions for the Walsh Ranch Pocket Prairie Bioblitz in Aledo!
The Pocket Prairie is at the north end of a small greenbelt with a paved trail running alongside the entire natural area. Park on the street and enter the greenbelt via any one of three walking paths between houses: at the north end between 1620 and 1632 Rolling Heights Lane, in the middle between 1856 and 1900 Shumard Way, and at the south end between 2001 Winding Ridge and 2024 Shumard Way. Google Maps will navigate you to any of those addresses (for example 1620 Rolling Heights Lane, Aledo, Tx). You may park along Rolling Heights Lane, Shumard Way or Winding Ridge Way. Do not park on Mary's Ridge Road or in any driveway or circle drive. If you find there are too many iNatters along the greenbelt or in the Pocket Prairie (high class problem), ping me and I will direct you to a larger natural area on the south side of the community near the Walsh Athletic Center and the dog parks.
Please remember this bioblitz is in an active neighborhood and most of the residents are not aware of what we are doing. Engage them if they are interested, but above all don't hinder their normal activities. I hope to see many of you there, Kate
