Four Week Report

Welcome folks, I'm really far behind on this. When I've done this project on previous years, I usually write up a report weekly, but I'm a lot busier this year than past. Anyway, we've just wrapped up the first 4 weeks of the 2022 season of the Inland Pacific Northwest Raptor Survey. Here's the stats coming from those weeks.

Week 1

Week One was a pretty explosive beginning with 43 observations being submitted with 12 different species observed. The observations are well dispersed throughout the project perimeters, and I hope we can continue that momentum. I think by all means, the observation of week one should go to the top species observed, and the best photo comes from @danithedeer who photographed some Turkey Vultures in Deschutes County, Oregon.

Week 2

I notice a sharp decrease in observations as we only pulled in 29 observations from 10 species. But I'm not going to complain because we bumped our species count by three, and I think the observation of week two should go to one of those new species. So, I give the award to @kenchamberlain for his outstanding photo of a Burrowing Owl in Morrow County, Oregon.

Week 3

We broke the weekly record between the fifteenth and twentieth by pulling in 44 observations but keeping the 10 species count. One of those species was new, though unfortunately, it was a juvenile saw-whet owl subject to a vehicle collision. A bit of a repeat but the coolest observation of the week is also a Burrowing Owl, this time photographed by @abr in Harney County, Oregon.

Week 4

If we going to break the record of observations in a week, we might as well hit the low afterwards. This latest seven days only got us 22 observations, but I don't blame you guys, summer decided to show up after all! The last noteworthy photo of this post goes to @actshrike who got an absolutely specular photo of a Bald Eagle in Spokane County, Washington.

Future
Ok folks, that's all for now. If you haven't joined the project yet, be sure to click that join button in the top right corner. That way, you can keep track on how the project going. In two days, I will give the monthly report, which is what this basically is, in three days. Maybe your observation will be highlighted. Good luck folks and I hope you see some cool raptors!
