Lab 2 Journal Entry iNaturalist

The specific observation that I chose to describe in-depth was the Common Rough Woodlouse or Porcellio Scaber. It is a eukaryote species in the family of Porcellionidae within the branch of Pancrustacea. The woodlouse is a crustacean in the Oniscidea branch of the isopods. It is also in the superorder of Peracarida in the ecdysozoan family.

The evolutionary adaptation that all of my insects have in common is the presence of more than two legs. Specifically, arthropods evolved to have fewer limbs over time but still have a quite large number of extremities, like the Porcellio Scaber with 14 legs (7 pairs).

The specific evolutionary adaption I am choosing is with the Genus Euchistus and its camouflage. I only noticed it because I was paying close attention, since the camouflage made it blend perfectly with the tree bark it was resting on.
