NYC District Boundaries - A resource for borough captains

I spent a little bit of time this fall making all 51 of the New York City Council Districts into places on iNaturalist. What this means is that now you can find an even more fine-grained list of your local power users on iNaturalist! I put all the iNat place names and a link to each district's top observer list in this Google Sheet.

I'm still looking for more borough captains who want to have iNaturalist meet-ups during the CNC! You can, of course, organize these on your own, BUT I'll be able to list your events here on this page and I have some resources that might come in handy. Let me know if you are interested.

That list and the links is really a great idea, but I could not get the links to work. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I want to get something in Prospect Park, preferably with the Audubon Center. But I have no contacts with NYC Audubon, or Prospect Park, that I know of. I'll organize something on my own, if nothing else comes through.

Susan: The links work, just not with a single click. Click once, you get a little pop-up. Click the pop-up, that goes to the link in a new tab.

@klodonnell -- Currently I decided I am in fact prepared to offer one event: a seaside, "tide-pooling" meet-up on Monday April 27th, at 7:30 am on the Harlem River (west) coast of Randall's Island, for the morning low tide. There is one beach in the south, and another beach somewhat further north.

It will have to be sign-up only. But who else can offer a heart-of-New-York-City, Manhattan seaside event? I don't which iNatters will be available on a Monday morning, and also crazy enough to get up that early, but in reality there is often quite a lot to see in these cool marine/estuarine habitats.

@susanhewitt I'm taking off both Friday and Monday. I've never been to Randall's Island.

If you can get up to be there that early, and assuming the weather is OK or semi-OK, you can for sure sign up, and I will be glad to show you at least the beach(es), maybe more. How would you get there? One can access Randall's Island from Astoria, Queens via the Triborough Bridge. Or if it's easier for you to get into Manhattan, you can walk across the foot bridge at 103rd St near the FDR.

I have a car, so I'd be looking for a place to park close by, then walk. I'd have to do some research.

In Manhattan there is a parking garage at the extreme east end of 102nd Street, right next to the FDR, just immediately south of the footbridge over to Randalls. You could use that maybe.

If you do want to drive onto Randall's Island itself via the Triborough Bridge (RFK Bridge), the easy way is to head for Icahn Stadium on Central Road, and park your car under the Triborough Bridge just beyond the south end of Icahn Stadium. Then you would walk west, take the boardwalk south over the salt marsh and then turn west and walk down the western coast of the island until you get to a nice little beach with easy access. You could call my cell at 646 240 1179 when you are nearby.

Or if you would like to park much closer to where I will be, you can drive all the way to the southwestern tip of the island. After Central Road you would take the Ward's Meadow Loop south, and then take East River Lane to its end, where there is a little traffic circle by the foot of the 103rd St footbridge. You can park by the side of the traffic circle there. The little beach is a couple hundred yards north.

I am going to see if one of the RIPA people will be there that early, because if so, maybe they can run us in an electric cart up to another more northerly beach while low tide is still on-going.
