I am a biologist at DFO currently focusing on the Magdalen Islands Lagoons.

I was previously involved in a large scale coastal habitat mapping project of the St-Lawrence Estuary, Gulf and Chaleur Bay. I mainly identifed macroalgae and marine invertebrates from underwater videos we produced at depths of 0-10 meters. Underwater shots of macroalgae in their natural habitat are rather rare yet provide a different and interesting perspective of these poorly studied organisms. I hope the images I have shared will benefit many.

As part of this project, we developed a Visual Dictionary for Analyzing Underwater Images of the Coastal Environment in the Quebec Region. Feel free to download and use it (available in both english and french)!

I have created the iNaturalist place "Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence" to constrain observations while identifying and exploring data. If you are interested in this marine region and are overwhelmed with the available data, try it out:

Please correct and comment my identifications freely. As my work with algae usually excludes manipulating samples, there is plenty of room for ID error. I am also relatively new to the field and am mostly learning as I go, including confounding species I was not aware of when I first started identifying here.

I am counting of your knowledge to further my own!

I also happen to be an avid edible mushroom hunter so may get involved with those taxa as well on iNat.
