Sand-like granules on mantle, gives grainy appearance. Light and dark bands on mantle, where lighter bands more narrow approx. 1cm.
Quite similar Polycera quadrilineata, but have multiple tentacles oriented forward by the head and they are “scruffy”. It has unbranched outgrowths on the body and three small gills, all with yellow pigmented tips.
Arctica islandica is a large bivalve which inhabits muddy to sandy bottoms, occurring in cold waters, ranging from subtidal waters to 150 m (Abbott 1974; Gosner 1978; Hayward and Ryland 1990). It is a suspension-feeder, with planktonic larvae. The optimal temperature range is 6-16 C.
