Mucia zygia (Plötz, 1886) - Hesperiidae-Hesperiinae
Weather: 84°F. It had two faded white stripes on its wing.
This organism is in the subfamily Hesperiinae, and is a type of butterfly. It is an insect in the phylum arthropoda, and therefore is an example of a protostome. The skipper is a monochromatic brown/grey color, with 6 legs, 2 eyes, wings, antennae, and bilateral symmetry. "The grass skippers can often be identified by the distinctive way in which they hold their wings, with the hindwings held out flat and the forewings half erect. These species are fast and low fliers, with rapid wingbeats like those of some moths." (capemaywildlife.com) This skipper was found when it landed on a leaf in the nature preserve, and is therefore not captive.
