This spring-produced seedhead remains an enigma to me. The smooth seeds look quite different from those produced in summer by the very prevalent local Daucus species (D. broteri?), which are spiny and burr-like. Are they merely less developed seeds, a product of seasonal polymorphism, or the fruit of a different Daucus species? I wasn't able to resolve that because I didn't find any more seedheads resembling this one.
