Smell very much like freshly ground pepper. Taste bitter. Spores rust coloured, 7.529-11.374×4.6-6.968, avg 8.762×5.173 n=107
Fruiting body club-shaped with a narrowed, rooting base, with the appearance of a large dusty root or stump. Spore case with brown, brittle, peridium that ruptures and flakes away. Spore mass powdery when mature, dark brown to cinnamon brown.
