Not sure whether I have enough detail here for a species-level identification. It was growing just inside a culvert under railway lines; I tried to get some close-ups but the light was poor and camera refused to focus properly.
Surprised to see a lot of maidenhair(?) ferns growing half a meter underground surrounded by concrete, down a grate with drainage water running underneath
This fern was found growing attached to a rock. Using Les Robinson’s 2003 book “Field Guide to the Native Plants of Sydney”, I believe this fern is Platycerium bifurcatum ssp. bifurcatum. However, it is strange that it is not growing on a tree.
This fern was found growing in a moist, cool gully. The fronds dichotomously branch, and there were lots of them present. Using Les Robinson’s 2003 book “Field Guide to the Native Plants of Sydney”, I believe this is Sticherus flabellatus var. flabellatus. Unlike the previous individuals spotted, this one appears to have very large fronds.
