Drama. These guys all normally get along pretty well, but here a squirrel decided to start something and nearly got kicked in the head as reward. Moments later they were back to munching sunflower seeds side-by-side again.

The parent never did bring food. There is a rotting log beneath them and the parent kept jumping down to it and then back up. Appeared to be trying to teach the baby how to forage for itself. Eventually the parent grew impatient and knocked the chick off of the branch and behind the log.

Frick Has A Girlfriend!!!
Introducing Frick & Frack!
Frick called her in early this morning. She is larger & her voice is the higher pitched one. With all that canoodling going on, they are already a couple apparently. She stayed about 3 minutes then left around 5:00 this morning. Frick was in and out of the house overnight and he last left around 6:45 am. No one stayed inside for the day. My fingers are crossed he can convince her this is the place to raise babies.

you jump up, startled.
as you peer into the toilet bowl, you see him, the prince of wadda mooli himself.

One of the best things I’ve seen while tracking recently! It’s the marking left by an eastern cottontail taking a dust bath. I’ve included the same photo from 4 different angles so it can be fully appreciated it.

Pyrrhuloxia...um....Northern Cardinal...um....both! It flew off but we were able to find it later and get an assemblage of photos that show various parts of the bird. I thought maybe it was just a pigment-ally or sexually challenged Cardinal but am back again thinking a hybrid. The beak color & shape as well as the black mask and red face are all good for Cardinal. It was also singing identically to what I would expect from a Cardinal. The gray back of head, mantle, part of wings are good for Pyrrhuloxia as is the bleeding red down the center of the grayish-white underparts.
