I was lucky enough to get pictures of this snake while I was out plant watching. Snakes are usually running away if I get closer.
This snake came up in the suggestions and I read the description on wiki, that these snakes like sandy soils and forest edges, and have a specialized diet of toads. This path is sandy and there were many Fowler's toads everywhere.
