Themes for 2018? Taking Suggestions Now!

Dear San Mateo County Bio-Blitz users:

What a year 2017 has been so far for San Mateo county and this project - we've grown along every vector from participation to species observed. The remarkable @dpom continues to outpace us all, while setting a standard for knowledge expansion. So I ask our users now - where does the data base need work? Particular taxa? Places where more and better coverage is needed? Species of special concern to document wherever we encounter them? Let's get interactive with each other and come up with ideas! Thanks for everything you contribute to the project, and keep growing!

Does San Mateo not have beavers? I noticed that you don't have observations. Maybe you can do a "missing species" theme? Fill in some gaps in the list.

That's a good idea! I think we've got the birds and butterflies pretty well taken care of, but mammals...

Missing any herps? I don't know the full potential of San Mateo.

Did you know that the San Mateo County Birding Guide includes San Mateo lists for Butterflies, Odes, Mammals, and Herps? We DO IT ALL at Sequoia Audubon!! http://birding.sequoia-audubon.org/checklistHerps.html

Are all those confirmed with records in iNat? Is there anything else that is theoretically there but not recorded? That would be interesting to know.

I'd have to run a check to see if they've all been recorded. We have some good herpers in the vicinity.

Well, I was able to check for the Salamanders - we have all but the California Tiger Salamander there.

That's a very interesting species that is missing. I wonder if it is still in the county or if it has been extirpated.

Could you ID the areas that need observations and make a list of those? I’m sure some are on private property. Could we ask for permission?

BTW, knowing of @vermfly 's concern to "GET THE FISH" - we do have somewhat better fish coverage than many parts of iNaturalist - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?captive=any&place_id=any&project_id=799&subview=table&taxon_id=47178&verifiable=any&view=species
However, there's likely more that needs doing!

@gyrrlfalcon That is pretty good. I imagine there are still quite a few possible things you could get. Especially offshore. I don't see a single shark or skate on that list.
