A place to gather all the natural history photos taken when caving, botanising, and tramping on the Marino Mountains, Mt Owen massif.
"Plant-hunting on Mt Owen" is the name of the first naturalist excursion to the area by W. Townson, in 1902, this was followed by C.J.E. Bell's thesis on the reationship between the soils and the plants species, exploration trips from 1984 to 1992 by Tony Druce, with his List 232 updated by DOC botanist by Shannel Courtney. Now Naturewatch is the latest format for sharing the pleasures of wandering around this magnificent landscape (on a sunny day) admiring the pleasing mosaic of plants, rocks, birds and slug trails.
The area encompasses the marble and shale between the Owen River - Bulmer Creek - Fyffe River- Nuggety Creek and Granity Creek. It excludes the limestone Turks Cap range and the granitic Lookout Range.
