IE Power Users Unite!

Calling all Inland Empire ‘power users’! You have submitted more than 1,000 observations (or nearly so) in Riverside and/or San Bernardino Counties. As the City Nature Challenge 2020 swiftly approaches, we are looking to YOU for contributions toward this global collaborative effort to document urban biodiversity. More than 200 cities around the world are working together to explore nature from the comfort and safety of their homes. To contribute, make as many observations as you can from April 24th – April 27th! Mobilize other iNat users you know to help us out! Help Identify and suggest Annotations for observations from April 28th – May 3rd! This will be important for us to improve the quality of observations in our region. Results will be announced on May 4th.

This is the first year that the Inland Empire is participating in the City Nature Challenge and although we won’t be holding any public in-person events this year, we can still make significant contributions with YOUR help! Please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information. Good luck and stay well 😊

Thanks for organizing this Bree! Just to be totally sure, the Inland Empire, for the purpose of the CNC, includes all of San Bernardino and Riverside County?

If I leave Kern County during the period I will try to participate. My camera broke last week so, it would only be iphone photos.

@aaron_echols thanks! And yes within all of SB and Riverside Counties. See our project page for the map.

@natureali great, thanks! You can also help during the species identification period (Apr 28-May 3) by verifying and suggesting IDs for observations remotely. iPhone photos are perfectly alright :)

Also, @aaron_echols be on the lookout for a ton of plant observations submitted by my CSUSB Ecology class: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/csusb-biol-450-urban-biodiversity-survey. They will need help IDing the species. I'm not sure how active plant people are on the platform :)

Normally we'd be conducting one of our annual butterfly counts on that weekend. If we can get NPS approval vis-a-vis virus restrictions, we'll try to run our count with just a handful of people. Regardless, our neighborhood is pretty natural in an arid kind of way. Looking forward to this.

If it would only stop raining around Hemet, I would love to get out in nature again. beyond the couple of blocks that I walk daily. :-)

After 35 days of home isolation (and mega tons of rain) I am beyond excited to get outside somewhere (anywhere) in the IE and help out! This gives me something to live for (well, at least to look forward to!) :)
