The Impact of iNaturalist in San Mateo County

Thanks, one and all, for contributing to the San Mateo County Bio-Blitz, this ongoing project. Well on our way to 18,000 observations, and over 1600 species recorded, we are making a difference. Citizen-science can cooperate with academic science, and our modest efforts are helping to prove this. Our day-long bio-blitzes, in conjunction with San Mateo County Parks, reveal new species and/or new distributions of species within each park, increasing local intensive knowledge of park resources. In this year of early butterfly flights, documenting any butterfly you can catch with your camera, can significantly aid local scientists. Keep it coming, and watch for the BIG Coyote Point BioBlitz this spring!
