September 15, Field Day 1 - Selin Omur

When walking to observe insects in their habitats, we found and caterpillar hidden in the bark of a tree. Adult moths lay their eggs in the fall, and then the larvae hatch in the spring feeding on a variety of woody plants. Moth and moth larvae coloring often resembles the bark of the food plant it prefers. This is most likely a protective adaptation.

Raya N, Lab 1 , insects

One of the spiders we saw was in it's web connected to a tree. When we touched the web accidentally the spider assumed that it's web had caught a prey, and thus it followed the vibration looking for food!
All the insects we saw has instincts to hide/move away from danger. Although their methods may have been different. This was caused by evolution, since animals need these skills to survive.
The "Subfamily Petrobiinae" is in the Archaeognatha phylogeny!
