Berkeley's Prairie is a project seeking to restore and commemorate the native prairie of the UC Berkeley campus land.

An effort is underway to locate remnant native grassland species surviving within the Strawberry Creek watershed.

Findings will be compared with historical records (from the 19th century through 1930s) of native grassland species from the Berkeley hills, compiled with collections data from the California Consortium of Herbaria (see:http://www.berkeleysprairie.info/historic-flora.html).

These findings will help provide a better understanding of the remaining native diversity of local grasslands.
Native species located through this project may serve as seed sources for ongoing student-led prairie restoration efforts on campus. Propagation will take place at the Strawberry Creek Native Plant Nursery.

All are welcome and encouraged to add observations of native grassland species through this project on iNaturalist. Multiple observations of individuals from each species in separate localities are sought in order to provide diverse sources for seed collection. menos ↑
