Birch Polypore

Birch Polypore is the most common polyporous fungi. It is found exclusively in the Northern Hemisphere, and grows best in cold climates. It can grow on living trees, but it grows best on dead logs. Birch Polypore tastes very bitter, but has a nice mushroomy smell. Caps can range from 5cm to almost a foot long, starting as little white bumps, and turning into soft rubbery bulbous protrusions.
