Observations of the Week (27.02.2022 - 05.03.2022)

Hello everyone! This is the second Observations of the Week post of the Biodiversity of South India Project! This week, we have two observations in second place!
Here they are in order:

  1. A Rhene sp. supposedly feeding on an Ornamental Tree Trunk Spider (Herennia multipuncta) from Bengaluru, Karnataka by @vaidyar
    A very interesting observation, this observation received 9 votes on the project's WhatsApp group, the highest number!

  2. A Whitespotted Whipray (Maculabatis gerrardi) from Tamil Nadu by @moovendankings
    This endangered animal belongs to the same subclass as the Sharks, since they are quite closely related to sharks! This observation received 2 votes on the project's WhatsApp group.
    Fun Fact: Sharks and Rays don't have bones! They are made up of only cartilage!

  3. A Winged Gliding Frog (Rhacophorus lateralis) from Kerala by @albinayur07
    This endangered and endemic frog is found only in India, Western Ghats to be specific, received 2 votes on the project's WhatsApp group.

Observations of the week (06.03.2022 - 12.03.2022)

Hello everyone! This is the third "Observations of the Week" post of the Biodiversity of South India Project!
Here they are in order:

  1. A Near-threatened and Endemic Rusty-spotted Cat (Prionailurus rubiginosus) from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh by @dryocopus.
    This observation received 6 votes on our WhatsApp group, the highest number!

  2. An endangered Malabar Silurus (Pterocryptis wynaadensis) from Karnataka by @girishgowda.
    This observation, uploaded this week, received votes on our WhatsApp group.

  3. Asian House Martins (Delichon dasypus) from Kannur, Kerala by @afsarnayakkan, one of the members of the group.
    An addition to the avifauna of South India, it received 1 vote on our WhatsApp group (not from him. He actually didn't vote)!

A few other observations were also selected. Here they are:

A critically endangered plant, Dipterocarpus bourdillonii, from Tamil Nadu by @navendu.

A congregation of Subfamily Ophioninae wasps from Kasavanahalli, Karnataka by @csbandi.

Observations of the week (13.03.2022 - 20.03.2022)

Hello everyone! This is the fourth "Observations of the Week" post of the Biodiversity of South India Project! This week, we have two observations in second place!
Here they are in order:

  1. A Pale Green Awlet (Bibasis gomata) from Hassan, Karnataka by @sanath_ramesh_manimoole.
    This observation received 4 votes on our WhatsApp group, the highest number!

  2. A cool capture of moth caterpillars along with their eggs from Bangalore, Karnataka by @subbu107.
    This has also been featured as iNaturalist's observation of the day! This observation received 2 votes on our WhatsApp group.

  3. An endangered and endemic Malabar Tree Toad (Pedostibes tuberculosus) from Kerala by @albinayur07.
    Another cool observation with 2 votes, it has also been ranked second!

  4. A moth caterpillar getting parasitized by wasps from the superfamily Chalcidoidae from Kasavanahalli, Karnataka by @csbandi.
    A very nice observation, it received one vote on the group!

Observations of the week (20.03.2022 - 26.03.2022)

Hello everyone! This is the fifth "Observations of the Week" post of the Biodiversity of South India Project!
Here they are in order:

  1. A beautiful Common Cat Snake (Boiga trigonata) from Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu by @anubhav-agarwal, one of the group memebers.
    A good record for the location, this observation received 6 votes from our WhatsApp group members (he did not vote)!

  2. A critically endangered Red-headed Vulture (Sarcogyps calvus) from South India by @viveknaturalist.
    This observation got 2 votes from our WhatsApp group members!

  3. An endangered and endemic Kalpetta Yellow Bush Frog (Raorchestes nerostagona) from South India by @albinayur07.
    This observation got 1 vote from our WhatsApp group members!
