Great Blue Herons

I visit three Ardeidea sites a year. Two are in my county (Summit), another in an adjacent county (Cuyahoga County). However, One in Summit County did not return this year. Could it be that More water has collected in that area? I am not sure what level is necessary or not.

Trumpeter vs. Mute Swans

Our Mute swans have been housed for the winter. Then, last week, two Trumpeter Swans flew in. It will be interesting if they stay.

Herons

I was under the impression that all herons migrated from Northeast but I guess not every kind?
I have seen two but too far away to see what kind they were. I think Great Blue. However, the two main rookeries , here, have already gone on.

Mute Swans/ Canadian Geese

I have found out that these swans are housed when the water begins to freeze on the lake.
The Canadian Goose you see is one of about 25 that accompany the swans. In the past, the city has tried to scare away these geese due to an extreme amount of mess that they leave. loud noises(gun shots) only scared them away temporarily, they came right back.

There are also several pairs and single Mallard ducks also reside on the lake.

Mute Swans

Mute swan couple. Barberton, Ohio (Lake Anna). The swan pair have resided on the lake for several years. There were hopes they would breed by the city park administration. There has not been any luck with the current couple. I know that there are a few differences between the male and female, length? I can not tell. They are usually seen together. When preening, one will go on land, one will be in the water not far away.

Observers will try to feed them (against the rules) but I have only seen them eat the grass that was thrown in.
