Tonight! Community Champions Webinar

This free webinar takes a step back from the intricacies of iNaturalist and looks at our community champions.

Residents, community members, volunteers and staff members of participating councils will be sharing their stories about how and why they use iNaturalist, rare, cryptic and endangered observations they have made and their favourite uses for iNaturalist.

During this free webinar, you will hear from community members across Greater Dandenong, Casey, Bayside, Monash, Kingston, Knox, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Cardinia, and Yarra Ranges, about their experience with iNaturalist and passion for recording local fauna and flora.

Tune in at 7pm on Thursday 15 September to watch, listen and learn by asking our panellists questions.

The webinar is open for anyone to join so invite your friends and family.

Have your say on a native wildlife habitats across Knox

Help shape our planning! Your feedback will support habitat planning that will:

  • increase vegetation
  • support wildlife
  • improve waterways
  • contribute to a network of habitat corridors across Knox

Habitat corridors are areas that connect wildlife to pockets of native vegetation without encountering human infrastructure. Wildlife can move more easily between areas and access other populations of their species for mating.

Through habitat corridor planning we aim to identify and provide priority actions for the management, protection and enhancement of habitat corridors across Knox.

City Nature Challenge: Knox City Council

Hi iNaturalist Observer's,

I’m Bernie form Knox City Councils Biodiversity team. I’m writing to you as you are one of the top observer’s and identifier’s on iNaturalist within the Knox municipality. You may have heard of the City Nature Challenge which is an annual global event to help document wild nature through iNaturalist. This year Knox has partnered with seven other councils across Eastern Melbourne to represent Melbourne over the observation period occurring Friday 30th April – Monday 3rd May. In the lead up and over the observation period Knox will be hosting three events ranging in theme from pollinators, moth lighting and insect exploration. You can find more details about the Knox’s City Nature Challenge events here: www.Knox.vic.gov.au/bushlandreserves

As part of the City Nature Challenge there is an identification period (May 4th – May 9th) immediately after the four-day observation period mentioned above. The identification period is where people like yourself can and are encouraged to help identify all the species that were captured using iNaturalist over the challenge period. Identifying these species greatly increases the value of these observations and helps the community better understand our local biodiversity.

We hope you consider getting involved in the City Nature Challenge!

All the best,
Knox City Council Biodiversity Team
